Directions
For the spiced slices recipe, we start by preparing the dry ingredients. Mix the flour, sugar, hazelnuts, gingerbread spice, baking powder, cocoa powder and salt in a large bowl. I always grind the hazelnuts myself to get a fresher and more intense flavor.
Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add the butter, which has previously been brought to room temperature. I have found that butter that is soft enough makes mixing much easier.
Pour the egg and butter mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix well until you have a grainy mixture.
Cover a baking tin with baking paper and pour in the dough, pressing it in evenly. A slight slope from the edge to the center is recommended so that the edges do not become too dry during baking.
Bake the dough for about 15-20 minutes at 180°C. Check the dough regularly, as every oven can vary.
For the icing, mix the powdered sugar and lemon juice. When the cake has cooled, apply the icing evenly to the spice slices. I love to add a little extra lemon juice to get a nice lemon flavor.
Your spice slices are ready! Enjoy them with a cup of hot tea or coffee.
