Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks In Oven Recipe
Tender lamb shanks that have been slow-cooked in a rich and flavorful tomato sauce seasoned with aromatic herbs and spices.
Ingredients
For the Lamb:
- 4 lamb shanks
- 1 onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 Cup beef broth
- 2 twigs Fresh Rosemary
- 2 twigs fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 tbls olive oil
For the Gremolata:
- 1 lemon - zest
- 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced

Directions
Preheat oven to 160°C.
Season the shanks with salt and pepper.
Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven or ovenproof pot over medium heat.
4 Add the meat until browned on all sides for about 10.
Transfer the lamb shanks to a plate.
Adding more oil if needed, add onion and garlic to the same pot and sauté until soft for about 3 minutes.
Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, rosemary, thyme, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper.
Mix the mixture and then remove from heat. Return the shanks to the pot, spooning the sauce on top of the lamb shanks.
Cover the pot with a lid and bake in the preheated oven for 150 minutes until the lamb is tender and falls apart.
Combine the gremolata ingredients in a separate bowl.
Serve the lamb shanks with the gremolata sprinkled on top.
