1. Step

Prepare the chocolate cake mix as per the instructions on the box into two 9 inch round cake pans. Let it cool.

2. Step

After cooling, cut one of the cakes in half. These halved ones will act as ladybug wings.

3. Step

Frost the whole cake lightly with white frosting. This is known as a crumb coat to allow the final coat to stick better. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

4. Step

Divide the remaining frosting into two. Mix red food coloring into one part to use for the ladybug body. Leave the other half white for eye decoration.

Apply the red frosting to the wings of the ladybug and around the whole circular body.

6. Step

Draw lines along the wings and spots on the body using piped black icing.

7. Step

Use the white chocolate wafers as eyes, stick them with a bit of frosting and use the black food writer to make the eyeballs.

Use the green frosting to draw leaves and black licorice strings to make the antennae.
