How to Make Quick & Easy Homemade Fondant
Fondant is a soft, yet steady, icing that can be used to blanket a cake for a sleek, smooth surface. It's perfect for wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and cake decorating in general. This homemade fondant recipe is easy, fun, and a cheaper alternative to the pre-made store-bought version.
Ingredients
- 1⁄4 Cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
- 1 tablespoon glycerin
- 2 tbls light corn syrup
- 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 kg sifted confectioners' sugar
- Food coloring (optional)

Directions
In a large mixing bowl, pour warm water. Sprinkle the gelatin over it and let it sit for 5 minutes until the gelatin has softened.
Place the bowl over a smaller pot with simmering water (double boiler) and stir until the gelatin is melted and the mixture is clear.
Remove from heat, add glycerin, light corn syrup, and vanilla extract (if using). Stir until well combined and cool for few minutes.
Add half of the confectioners' sugar to the bowl and stir until mixed through.
Gradually add the remaining confectioners' sugar and mix until a sticky dough forms.
Dust your work surface with confectioners' sugar and knead the fondant until it becomes smooth and supple, about 5-7 minutes.
If you want colored fondant, add few drops of food coloring at this stage and knead until the color is evenly dispersed.
Form the fondant into a ball, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and let it rest overnight at room temperature before using it.
The fondant can be stored in the fridge for up to a month. Just make sure it's well wrapped to prevent drying out.
