Directions
Place the water, sugar and yeast in the mixing bowl of your Thermomix. Program 1 minute at 37 degrees at speed 2, to activate the yeast properly.
Add the flour, salt and oil, knead for 6 minutes. The dough should be elastic, but not sticky, this is the perfect state to work it without difficulty.
Place the dough in the Thermomix mixing bowl, cover and let it rest for about 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size. This step is crucial to obtain the desired fluffiness of the Bao Buns.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Form small balls and roll out into an oval shape. Grease with a little oil and fold in half. Place them on baking paper.
Steam the Bao Buns in the Thermomix using the Varoma steamer for 12-15 minutes. Remember not to overload the steamer so that the Bao Buns have room to expand and get that characteristic spongy texture.
Turn off your Thermomix and let the Bao Buns rest for 5 more minutes in the steamer. This will allow them to become softer before serving.
