Simple Old-Fashioned Fresh Mint Sauce

One of my favorite condiments to dress up my Sunday roast lamb has always been mint sauce. The traditional, old-fashioned mint sauce is an English classic and is available in many high-end restaurants. However, when it comes to this sauce, I have always found that homemade simply tastes the best. This mint sauce effortlessly blends the pungent taste of mint with a delicious tangy zest. It certainly gives your dish a vibrant flavor boost.

Directions

1. Step

Start by picking high-quality fresh mint leaves, as this will significantly affect the flavor of your sauce. Wash the mint leaves thoroughly and pat dry before chopping them finely.

2. Step

In a heatproof bowl, combine the sugar and boiling water. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved. Adding boiling water to the sugar helps create the syrupy consistency that's integral to this sauce.

3. Step

Add the white vinegar to the bowl. Be careful about the vinegar you use. Always go for a good-quality white vinegar, which doesn't overpower the natural flavor of the mint.

4. Step

Now, add the freshly chopped mint leaves to the bowl and combine everything together. Stir well until the sauce is evenly mixed.

5. Step

Finally, add salt to taste. It's important not to add too much, so the flavor of the mint doesn't get overshadowed.

6. Step

Allow the mixture to cool completely. This will give time for the flavors to integrate, making the sauce more potent and delicious.

7. Step

Once cooled, transfer your sauce into a clean jar and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
