Old-Fashioned Baked Chocolate Custard From Scratch

- 4 egg yolks
- 2 cups of heavy cream
- 0.3 Cup of granulated sugar
- 1⁄4 Cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 ounces of dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and arrange 4 ramekins in a deep baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and salt until slightly thickened.
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, cocoa powder, and dark chocolate, stirring until the chocolate has completely melted.
Gradually whisk the hot chocolate mixture into the egg yolk mixture until smooth, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Pour the custard mixture into the prepared ramekins. Fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
Bake for about 50 minutes, or until custards are just set around the edges but still a bit jiggly in the center.
Remove the custards from the oven, let it cool then place them into the refrigerator to set completely before serving.
