How to make Indian Spiced Spinach Saag Paneer

Saag Paneer is a delicious and highly nutritious Indian dish, traditionally made from spinach sautéed with spices and served with paneer - a kind of Indian cheese. This recipe serves 4 people and will only take you 45 minutes to prepare.

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped Added to
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced Added to
  • 2 Pieces of ginger, chopped Added to
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced Added to
  • 1 green chili, chopped Added to
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds Added to
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder Added to
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder Added to
  • 12 teaspoon Red Chili Powder Added to

1. Step

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and fry the paneer cubes until they are golden brown. Remove them and set it aside.

2. Step

In the same pan, add the remaining oil, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, and green chili. Sauté until the garlic turns golden brown.

3. Step

Add the finely chopped onions and let them cook until they are soft.

4. Step

Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook this until the tomatoes are mushy.

5. Step

Now add the spinach leaves and cook until they are wilted.

6. Step

Blend this mixture into a smooth puree using a blender or a food processor.

7. Step

Pour this puree back into the pan, add the paneer cubes, and let it simmer for around 5 minutes.

8. Step

Garnish with fresh cream (optional) and serve hot with Indian bread (naan) or boiled rice.
