Its earthy flavor, chewy texture, and robust nutritional profile make it a staple in my kitchen. While it takes a bit longer to cook than regular rice, the wait will certainly prove worthy. Directions
Rinely rinse the wild rice under cold water. I've learned from my many experiences that it helps to ensure a clean, pure flavor.
In a large saucepan, bring the water and salt to a boil. I recommend using a saucepan with a heavy bottom to distribute heat better.
Once the water is boiling, add your wild rice. Give it a stir.
Reduce the temperature to low. This lower heat helps the wild rice cook gently and evenly.
Cover your saucepan and let the rice simmer for about 45 to 55 minutes. I've noted that wild rice (being a harder grain) requires a longer cooking time than other types of rice. Do not rush this part. Patience is essential for the perfect wild rice output!
Start checking the rice at around the 45-minute mark. It's done when the grains are tender and have \popped\ to reveal a white interior.
Drain any excess liquid and let the rice sit for about 10 minutes, allowing it to firm up and absorb any lingering moisture. This is a small detail, but trust me, it makes a significant difference in texture.
Fluff your wild rice with a fork before serving, then enjoy this hearty, wholesome grain in a salad, soup, or as a side dish.
