Homemade Grandma's Beef Stew Recipe
A comforting stew recipe that is perfect for cold winter. This stew is packed with tender beef, vegetables and rich spices that will warm you up the inside out.
Ingredients
- 2 Pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tbls all-purpose flour
- 2 tbls olive oil
- 1 large onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 carrots
- 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 2 Stems celery, sliced
- 1 Cup frozen peas
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 Cup red wine (optional)
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- salt and black pepper to taste

Directions
In a large bowl, season the beef stew meat with salt and pepper. Sprinkle flour over the meat and toss to coat evenly.
Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown the beef in batches until well-seared on all sides. Set aside.
In the same pot, add diced onions and minced garlic. Sauté until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
Return the seared beef to the pot. Add carrots, potatoes, celery, frozen peas, beef broth, red wine (if using), bay leaves, and dried thyme. Stir well to combine.
Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours, or until the meat is tender and the flavors have melded together. Stir occasionally.
Remove bay leaves. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
Serve the beef stew hot in bowls, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. It pairs perfectly with crusty bread or mashed potatoes.
